The MED Directive (2014/90/EU) aims to harmonise among all Member States of the European Community, the conformity assessment procedures relating to equipment intended to be placed on board EU ships.
It applies to passenger and cargo ships falling within the scope of the International Conventions and are substantially ships used for commercial purposes, excluding warships, pleasure boats and fishing boats.
The equipment to be loaded on board these means of transport and contemplated in Annex A.1 of the MED Directive, must bear the so-called 'Timoncino' (rudder) marking.
