The EN 407 standard specifies the requirements, test methods, information to be supplied, and marking of protective gloves and other devices protecting hands against heat and/or fire. It is also applicable to arm protective equipment. It is used for all gloves and protective devices that protect the hands or parts thereof against heat and/or flames in one or more of the following forms: fire, contact heat, convective heat, radiant heat, small splashes, and large quantities of molten metal.
The degree of protection against risks from heat and/or fire is identified by a pictogram
followed by 6 performance levels regarding a specific risk.
flammability resistance level 0 to 4
resistance to contact heat level 0 to 4
resistance to convective heat level 0 to 4
resistance to radiant heat level 0 to 4
resistance to small splashes of molten metal level 0 to 4
resistance to large quantities of molten metal level 0 to 4
