The EN 15154 standard regulates the presence and supply, in work danger zones, of a sufficient amount of liquid for a body shower or eyewash, in case of a fire or after contact with substances hazardous for health. It consists of four different parts and contains the features and regulation for:
Plumbed-in emergency showers; Plumbed-in eye wash units; Non-plumbed safety showers; Non-plumbed eye wash units.
According to the EN 15154-1 standard, the water flow rate dispensed by the plumbed in emergency showers must comply with local standards and, if non-existent, at least 60 litres/minute. The standard also defines the height standards of the showers, so that 50% of the water jet is within a 200 mm radius from the centre of the shower and 95% of the water jet in an area of a 400 mm radius from the centre of the shower. It must be drinking water and run continuously for at least 15 minutes.
